KPLC Logo The Kendall Park Learning Center is an educational resource institution which augments what students are learning in school by providing remediation and enrichment instruction in all academic subjects in elementary, middle and high school. The Center offers instruction on a one-on-one basis or in small groups. An individualized program is designed for each student, and instruction is provided by experienced teachers. In working with students with special needs, the Center's teachers and staff are prepared to implement an IEP or design an IEP.

Philosophy

Kendall Park Learning Center (KPLC) is committed to the growth and success of individuals personally and academically. Through academic achievement, students gain knowledge and confidence in themselves, ultimately becoming accomplished, self-assured members of society. Instructors are selected based on their mastery of the subject matter they are responsible for teaching, classroom teaching experience, and their ability to adapt their teaching method to accommodate individual learning styles. Our goal is to develop each student's critical reasoning skills and academic knowledge so that he/she can take his/her understanding and apply it to succeed in the real world.

Expectations

The mission of the Kendall Park Learning Center is to promote success through building self-confidence. Students are expected to be on their best behavior while in summer school. The following is a brief discussion of our most important school rules. Read them carefully.

Student Conduct

  • Students are kindly requested to conduct themselves in an orderly, respectful manner. Since the school strives to promote self-confidence, students are asked to show each other mutual tolerance and respect.
  • Students are not permitted to chew gum at KPLC
  • Students are not permitted to smoke at KPLC
  • Students are not permitted to leave the school without permission
  • Students must remain within the building until a parent comes to pick them up.

Eating/Drinking

  • Students are NOT permitted to eat in the classrooms. They may only do so in the administration office.

  • Students are asked to bring a healthy snack. Sugar should not be listed as one of the primary ingredients.

Student Dress Code

  • There is no dress code, per se, but students are requested to wear clothing that is appropriate.
  • Shirts and shoes are a must. Pants should be decent looking with no tears. If shorts are worn, they must either knee length or just above the knee.
  • Students should wear shoes, sandals or other appropriate footwear.
  • Hair must be neatly kept.

Attendance Policy

In accordance with the laws of the State, the Kendall Park Learning Center requires students to attend school regularly to ensure continuity of instruction and classroom participation. Students must assume responsibility for regular attendance in order for KPLC to fulfill its obligations and meet its goals and objectives to both its students and districts it serves.
KPLC adheres to the attendance policy of the sending school district. No more than the home district's allowed unexcused absence per year. For each unexcused absence, KPLC will contact the student's parents to determine cause of the absence and will contact the sending school and other authorities or agencies as appropriate.

Advanced credit classes require a total of 120 hours of classroom instruction in order to receive course credit. Advanced credit science classes require a total of 140 hours. Students taking the class for course credit are allowed only one (1) day of absence, with those hours to be made up, after school, before the end of the summer session. Review credit courses meet for a total of 60 hours, and students taking review courses are allowed only two (2) days of absence, with those hours to be made up, after school, before the end of the summer session. [No exceptions] Students are expected to be on time for every class, with any time missed to be made up before the end of the session.

Academic Tutoring Service Cancellation Policy: It is our policy to accommodate your child's activities whenever possible. However, when we reserve time for your child, we cannot accommodate another child. Therefore, we ask that you notify the Center within 24 hours if you wish to cancel a session or call us before 12:00pm on the day of the class. The cancelled session should be rescheduled in two weeks or it will be lost. A session cancelled without first notifying the Center within 24 hours or before 12:00pm on the day of the class, cannot be rescheduled. The student will be charged as if the session had taken place. We allow one cancellation per month; if there is more than one cancellation, there will be a rescheduling fee of $5.00. All confirmed make-ups cannot be rescheduled.

Make-up Classes: KPLC will schedule make-ups with the appropriate teacher. We reserve the right to schedule all make-ups with any of our KPLC teachers if a child's original teacher is not available.
